Warwick and Warwick Toys, Postcards and Cigarette Cards auction 15th November 2023

The cigarette and trade card section saw some fantastic bidding with collections and individual sets selling very well. Some standouts included, Lot 10, a collection in album, loose, sealed in clear plastic, trade cards etc with ranges from Adkin, Ardath, Barratt, Brooke Bond, Cope Bros, Churchman, Davies, Irwin, L&B, Lyons, Ogdens, Players etc, with an auction estimate of £300, sold for a grand total of £6,000.

                                    

The most popular lots in the cigarette card section were the Allen & Ginter cards. Lot 74, a complete set in plastic sleeves Birds of America, had an estimate of £220 and sold for £675. Lot 75 featured a complete set in plastic sleeves Celebrated American Indian Chiefs and was estimated at £220 and sold for an impressive £2,200. Lot 76 had a complete set in plastic sleeves The Worlds Beauties, which was estimated at £300 and sold for £525.

                    

The star of the show was Lot 77, an Allen & Ginter’s complete set in plastic sleeves with The Worlds Champions (1st). The set had book bids, phone bidders and Easy Live bidders all vying for it and sold for an absolute sensational £15,500!

                   

Moving on to the Postcards section, Part 4 of the late David Pearlman collection continued to sell well. Notable lots include Lot 117, Artists. Misc. coln. of Lawson Wood in mixed condition with sets including Davidson pub, Prehistoric Pastimes, Prehistoric Courtship and Prehistoric Matrimony plus Gran-Pop series, animals, children, romance etc. This lot was estimated at £100 and sold for £120. Lot 137a composed of Misc. coln. in small album with Titanic range and plenty of RPs. Building the New Tyne Bridge nos 30 and 31, coal mining (Leyburn photographer), bus and tram at Rubery, Princesses' Theatre Crayford, In Memorium ptd and RP. leaving Southampton etc and had an estimate of £600 and sold for £825.

                   

 

 

              

In the Die Cast Models section, Corgi models always attracts buyers, and this sale was no exception, with Lot 446, selling for as expected at £120 and had an estimate of £100. Lot 447 included a range of die cast vehicles, generally excellent in very good to excellent plus boxes, with 420 'Ford Thames "Airborne" Caravan', 438 'Land Rover (109" W.B.), 465 'Commer Pick-Up Truck' and 1131 '"Carrimore" Detachable Axle Machinery Carrier' and had an estimate of £100 and sold for £120.

           

Lot 449, a Ghia Fiat 600 Jolly No. 240, was estimated at £110 and sold for £110. Lot 450, featured a Chrysler Imperial Convertible No. 246, red body, pale blue interior, detailed cast hubs, figures (2), golf trolley was estimated at £100 and sold for £130. Lot 451, a Chitty Chitty Bang Bank No.266 sold for £110 and was estimated at £100. Lot 452 had a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Open Roadster No. 303S, with suspension, blue body, yellow interior, red, white and black racing number 7 bonnet decal, spun hubs, white driver figure. This lot was estimated at £100 and sold for £110.

            

Many of the Dinky mixed lots caught the eyes of the buyers with Lot 469 selling for £360, which had an estimate of £320, Lot 482 had an estimate of £160 and sold for £170 and Lot 483 had an estimate of £150 and sold for £170.

             

The Model Railways section is always very popular, and we received some great bids during the auction.

    

Lot 546, a Hornby Live steam OO gauge 'Mallard Live Steam Train Set' No. R1041, with LNER Class A4 4-6-2 LNER 4468 'Mallard' blue locomotive and tender, had an estimate of £250 and sold for £260. Lot 581, a Hornby O gauge electric 20v locomotive Caerphilly Castle 4073 sold for bang on its estimate at £130.

    

Moving on to the N gauge section, the Fleischmann lots always gather interest with Lot 613 a collection of wagons, selling for £525 and had an estimate of £400. Lot 614 a range of locomotives sold for £525 and had an estimate of £280. It is not always the locomotives that buyers are after so making exciting lots of other material is equally important.

    

Lot 641 was a mixed lot with OO gauge Hornby Dublo sets with steam with tender Duchess of Montrose 8/46232 4-6-2 No EDP13 (2), tank 80054 2-6-4 No EDP13, plus a range of Lone Star, Triang TT, Master Models, Mamod and O gauge. This lot had an estimate of £450 and sold for a wonderful £1,400.

    

Lot 692, a Steam locomotive with tender Sir Nigel Gresley 4498 4-6-2 sold for £210 and had an estimate of £150.

Hornby lots always sell well especially the DCC ready ones! Lot 735, a HO Olympia HO Gauge EH-102 Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 'Big Boy' unpainted brass locomotive and tender had an estimate of £200 and sold for £250. Lot 742 was near the end of our sale with Wrenn W2404 'Limited Edition' OO gauge 4-6-2 'Mallard' garter blue No.4468 locomotive and tender sold for £190 and had an estimate of £130.

    

The sale was a great success with many lots achieving their estimate or above.
