The sale got under way with the collections and mixed lots. As usual these lots proved popular with some achieving outstanding prices. A lot containing complete sets from Bocnal, Carreras, Churchman, E.R.B. and others was estimated at £450 and realised £780, a range of sets with good sport content by Carreras, Churchman, Hill, Ogdens and others estimated £380 made £750, a lot including a mixed range of mainly Film & T.V. sets by Abdulla, Lloyd, Sandorides, Teofani, Wills Scissors, A. & B.C. and others realised £1,080 against an estimate of £350,a collection of parts sets by Ogdens, Wills, Wix and others estimated £140 achieved £324 and another lot with strength in sports sets by Carreras, Churchman, Wills, A. & B.C., Kiddy’s Favourites and others estimated £100 realised nearly £400.
Ranges by individual manufacturers also did well with a collection of Gallaher part sets in mixed condition making an outstanding £1,860, an Ogdens Tabs collection with a small range of sporting cards estimated £400 realising nearly £580, a lot of Taddy part sets in mixed condition estimated at £150 realising £250, and a Wills collection of complete and part sets in mixed condition estimated at £200 realised £1,200.
The individual sets started with a Churchman Footballers – Action & Picture set which made over £370 despite 5 having creases, a Churchman Famous Golfers set estimated £150 realised £370, a range of over 300 Cope Noted Footballers – ‘Clips’ in poor to fair condition sold for over £800, a Cope Noted Footballers – ‘Solace’ range of 73 cards in poor to good condition realised over £1,100 and a Player Famous Irish Greyhounds set estimated £90 realised over £150.
The excellent offering of football cards continued with a Smith Footballers (Cup Tie) part set of 65 cards in fair condition realising £168 against a £100 estimate, a Smith Football Club Records range of 98 cards in good condition made nearly £500, a Taddy Thames Series set estimated £300 realised £480, 4 lots containing Taddy Prominent Footballers all achieved well over double their estimates, a Taddy Territorial Regiments set estimated at £180 made £360, a Wills 1901 Cricketers Series set estimated £250 realised £420 despite some toning and a Woods Types of Volunteers and Yeomanry set estimated £250 made £370.
The trade card section of the sale was relatively small but still offered some excellent results. A collection of complete and part football and other sports sets by A. & B.C., News Chronicle, Thomson, Topical Times and other realised £1,920. A Barratt collection of football part sets made over £1,100, a rare Central Picture Theatre, Belfast War portraits part set of 44 cards proved remarkably popular realising £900 and a Reddish Maid Famous International Aircraft set estimated £50 made £84.
