The sale on Sept 3rd was well attended and very competitive, with a total realisation of over £354,000 (inclusive of buyers premium). Lots 1,2 and 3, three Foreign “Ideal” albums, all came from the same stable, a collector with a real eye for quality and a passion for completeness. Together they achieved £33,040 – a testament to a life-long love for stamps.
Also in this sale was a truly exceptional collection of Swedish Booklets, with both phone and room bidders competing strongly and resulting in a complete sell-out of the whole section for £64,900 (estimate £40,000)
Other lots worthy of note were lot 290, a fiscally cancelled KUT 100r, now cat £225 which sold for £106
Lot 303, the rare and seldom noticed Newfoundland 1938 line perf 3c fetched £247 (cat £850)
Lot 309, a spectacular miss-perf block of 2/- Admirals, estimate £200 sold for£342
A good section of the ever popular South Africa and SWA sold well, including lot 330, the rare 2d official with overprint inverted which achieved £495.
China continued its recent success with lot 373, a collection estimate £5,000 selling for £9,440
In the GB section, collections went well with lot 618, a mint collection selling for £3,776 (estimate £2,200)
