Coins, Medals, Militaria and Banknotes Auction Report 19th June 2024

19th December 2024 Coins, Medals, Militaria and Banknotes Auction had some very interesting lots and strong live bidding through www.easyliveauction.com plus commission and telephone bids.

The Medals and Militaria section had large interest for its amazing range of edged weapons, especially Lot 91, a Scarce German circa 1600-1610 swept hilt rapier by Wolfgang Stantler of Munich which sold to a lucky bidder for an amazing price of £3200.

From our continued Royal Marines section, we had lot 133 Royal Marine Artillery 1866-79 OR's busby plume holder, a fused grenade, on the ball a scroll inscribed Per Mare Per Terram which after furious bidding sold for a staggering price of £2300!

Moving on to banknotes, Lot 272 Samoa. Bank of Samoa promissory note for eight shillings issued by Arthur Newnes & Co Ltd. No. C544 1st issue May, '99. Fine sold for an astounding price of £1600 after a rival bidding war finally came to an end.

Next, we have the coin section of the sale, and the main spotlight goes to Lot 899 our highest selling item of the auction overall, Hong Kong. 1868 half dollar proof extremely fine, toned, verdigris spot to reverse which started a bidding war amongst our bidders finally selling at grand total of £15500!

  

Also, Lot 582 1998 Four-coin sovereign boxed proof FDC collection sold for a respectable £3100, Isle of Man. 1798 penny gilt proof on ordinary flan, from a mount, about uncirculated, carbon spot to obverse, received a final hammer price of £1300.

Our last mention of our coins section of the sale is Lot 916 Scotland. Hammered collection generally fair to fine including pennies of Alexander III, Robert II, twenty pence Charles I (2) etc. sold for a whopping £1700!

Our Medallic and Commemorative section had some unique items on offer including Lot 832 which received furious bidding for this 1966 London Medals (Great Fire and Blitz) 18ct gold proof part set of 5 commemorative medals FDC, certificate number 64, sold for £7000!

Lot 830 1965 '25th Anniversary of the Desert War 1940-1965' 18ct gold proof cased set of 3 commemorative medals FDC sold for a final price of £2100

Our final lot to mention is Lot 828 1963 'John F Kennedy' 18ct gold proof cased set of 3 commemorative medals FDC received an impressive hammer price of £2000.

Overall, the sale was a great success with much interest and lively bidding throughout.
