11th December 2024 Coins, Medals, Militaria and Banknotes Auction had some very interesting lots and strong live bidding through www.easyliveauction.com plus commission and telephone bids.
The Medals and Militaria section was extremely popular, especially Lot 77, S.A.S. Lilly collection:
WW2 1939-1945, Africa, Italy Stars, Defence Medal attributed to 49889 Sgt Reginald George Lilly, 2nd S.A.S. Regiment, good extremely fine in Infantry & AAC box of issue addressed to R. Lilly, Willow Cottage, S. Dareth, Nr Dartford, with transmittal slip, which sold for the grand total of £1450! Additional information for this exceptional lot can be found on our website.
Lot 102 Third Reich SS dagger and scabbard by Hammesfahr, Meine Ehre Heisst Treue to blade, maker's mark Gottleib Hammesfahr Solingen Foche in oval around tent with Red Cross, crossguard marked III for Berlin district sold for £600.
Lot 104 Third Reich SS/Police officer's sword and scabbard, ricasso marked with knight's helmet over WKC, other side marked with SS double rune, dark brown/black ridged grip with metal Police eagle badge inset, D pattern knucklebow and crossguard, pommel with with SS double rune, no knicks to blade, scabbard with 95% paint, generally extremely fine and scarce, sold for an impressive £550!
Moving on to our Banknotes which also contains our highest selling item of the auction, lot 351 - Netherlands. Muntbiljet 1905 presentation album containing loose leaf proofs in various colours and stages each 296x250mm all different with printed annotations "BILJET VAN f 10 - EM 1878 - 1-10" (10 proofs), "BILJET VAN f 50 - EM - 1885 - 1-9" (9 proofs), "BILJET VAN f 10 - 1891 - 1-5" (5 proofs), "BILJET VAN f 10 - EM 1894 - 1-9" (9 proofs), "BILJET VAN f 10 - EM 1901 - 1-9" (9 proofs). Qty 42 proofs and sold for a grand total of £12500! Additional photos can be seen on our website.
Lot 178 collection in album with O'Brien white £5 1955 A93A very fine, experimental £1 A01N first run fine, Lowther £50 M01424205 and Bailey M01 040535 a lower number uncirculated, John £50 AA05 uncirculated, interesting numbers Somerset £1 AR11-AR20 666666 (10 notes) uncirculated, Ringwood & Hampshire Bank 1821 £1 fair etc. which eventually sold after fierce bidding for an impressive £2400!
Our final mention for banknotes is lot 338 Hong Kong. Mercantile Bank of India 1941 (29th November) $5 172106 fine. (Krause 235d) which also attracted very competitive bidding sold for a staggering £2300!
Moving on to the coin section of the sale, our first mention is lot 821 Germany. Gold commemorative reading 'EMIL KIRDORF ANNO MCMXIII' on obverse and 'FVR TREVE DIENSTE' on reverse which achieved a price of £4000!
Lot 829 Yugoslavia. 1973 Petar II Petrovic Njegos gold medallic issue achieved a sale price of £1100.
Our final mention for our last sale of the year is Lot 577 1716 SECVNDO crown fine sold for £575.
Overall, the sale was a great success with much interest and lively bidding throughout.
