Coins and Banknotes Auction Report 19th October 2022

Our 19th October 2022 Coins and Banknotes auction had some great lots and some even greater bids with customers bidding live via Easy Live and with commission and telephone bids.

All our auctions start at 10.00am and no longer feature in room bidding, they are held exclusively online via Easy Live. Viewing of the lots is encouraged by appointment only on the Friday, Monday and Tuesday before the auction. No viewing is allowed on the day of the auction itself. The auction marched off with the medals section and lot 35 consisting of 1854 India and 1857 Indian Mutiny medals sold for £1,110. Lot 56, a 1900 China War Medal caught the eye of a keen buyer as it for £840.

Following on from medals the most notable lots were lot 111 a WW2 Japanese Army officers shin-gunto, selling for £810. Lot 117, a fantastic accumulation of different items reached a whopping £1,080.

The mid-section of the sale hosted the banknotes with a popular Falkland Islands section with lot 153 sailing away for an incredible £2,280. Lot 154 stowed away for £720, lot 155 sold for £432 and lot 156 anchored up at £1,860.

The most exciting lot of the banknotes section played host to Spain though, as lot 191 1938 100 pesetas Dame of Elche went for a fantastic £4,920.

Following an exciting first half of the sale we carried on receiving some great bids going into the coins. Lot 211 reached a sale price of £1,200, more than six times its estimate! Carrying on the momentum lot 232 reached £2,760, exceeding its £1,800 estimate!
